Every band has a beginning.
For Quemasantos, it was seven years in the making.
Released in 2022, **Quemasantos** is the band's debut full-length album, bringing together material written and developed between 2015 and 2022. Produced, mixed, and mastered by Ignacio Orellana at Oily Sound Studios in New York, the record introduced the sound and identity that would define the band's future: classic heavy and thrash metal driven by powerful riffs, memorable melodies, and lyrics that explore both the modern world and the human condition.
Performed entirely in Spanish, the album represents the band's original artistic vision before the transition to English-language releases that would follow in later years. While the language would eventually change, the musical identity and songwriting approach established on *Quemasantos* remain at the core of the band's sound.
Rather than relying on a fixed lineup, the album features several musicians who contributed throughout its development, reflecting the different stages of the band's evolution. Vocalist Nelson Díaz appears throughout the record, joined by guitarists Reggison Silva and Bill Smith, bassists Marcelo Da Venencia, Ron Buckner, and Ignacio Orellana, while Orellana performs drums on every track.
Across its nine songs, *Quemasantos* explores themes including technology, religion, justice, environmental destruction, personal struggle, and dystopian visions of the future. Each composition stands on its own while contributing to the band's unmistakable identity.
The album also documents the evolution of the band's earliest material by including two different recordings of **"Somos Legión."** The original 2015 version closes the album, while the 2020 version presents a renewed interpretation featuring guest vocalist Gonzalo Rodríguez alongside Nelson Díaz.
Another important piece of the album's legacy is **"Planeta Rojo,"** originally recorded by Nelson Díaz (vocals), Reggison Silva (guitars), Marcelo Da Venencia (bass), and Ignacio Orellana (drums). The song would later be revisited as **"Red Planet,"** an English adaptation included on the band's second full-length album, *Stranded In Hell*. While the music was reimagined, the original recording remains an essential part of Quemasantos' history and marks the bridge between the band's Spanish and English eras.
More than a debut album, *Quemasantos* established the musical and creative foundation of the band. It captured the beginning of a journey that continues to evolve while remaining true to its heavy metal roots.
